Inland is the beautiful Valle d’Itria area (Itria Valley), home of the Trullo (plural: trulli) and one of the most beautiful and exotic areas of South Italy. Alberobello is the “Capitale dei Trulli”, a small town with a quarter wholly composed of 1,000 trulli, now declared as a World Heritage Site by Unesco and a must see for any visitor to this area. The strikingly beautiful hilltop towns of Locorotondo and Ostuni should also be high on any visitors itinery, as well as Martina Franca, with its extraordinarily sophisticated baroque and rococo buildings and Lecce, known as the “Florence of the South”. Puglia produces more olive oil than the rest of Italy put together and around 75% of all Italian fruit and vegetables are grown here. That is why Puglia is often called ‘the garden of Italy’.
